Heat pumps
Heat pumps for homes in Central Washington
Air source, dual-fuel, ductless and geothermal. Installed, repaired and kept running by the same Yakima crew.
Chapter 01
What a struggling heat pump tells you first
A heat pump rarely quits without warning. The power bill creeps up for no reason you can name. The house will not hold temperature on a mild day. The unit shuts off and restarts every few minutes, or it will not start at all.
Ice on the evaporator coil, water leaking where it should not, or a thermostat that no longer matches the room are all on the same list. So is low refrigerant and a clogged line. Most of these start small: a dirty filter, dirty evaporator and condenser coils, a thermostat that has drifted.
Call at the first of those signs. A heat pump that runs hard for a season on a clogged coil costs more to operate and wears out sooner, and the repair on a mild day is usually the cheap one.

Air source, dual fuel, ductless or geothermal
A heat pump does not make heat so much as move it. In summer it carries warm air out of the house. In cold weather it runs in reverse and pulls heat from the outside air into your rooms. That is why it suits Central Washington, and why it can give a home less dry air in the heating season than a furnace does.
We install and service every style. Air source split and packaged systems push conditioned air through ductwork, in electric or gas and electric hybrid form. Dual-fuel pairs the heat pump with a gas furnace that takes over in the deepest cold. Ductless heat pumps run an outdoor unit to one or several indoor heads, each room with its own thermostat. Geothermal costs more to install and uses the steady temperature of the ground.
We are a Mitsubishi Double Diamond dealer, and we install and service Trane and American Standard too. For a house already running another brand, we repair all makes and models. Our NATE-certified technicians size the system to the house and the budget, then explain efficiency ratings against what the unit will cost to run.
Chapter 03
Spring and fall checks, and when to replace
Book a spring and fall check, so the system is proven before the first heat wave and the first hard freeze.
The visit is plain: clean and inspect the system, check what the filters and coils are doing, and tell you what will need attention soon, in words you do not need a manual to follow. No pressure to buy work you did not ask for.
On replacement, our rule of thumb is to look hard at a heat pump once it is 10 to 15 years old, or when repairs start to cost about half of a new one. If you are weighing a swap from an old furnace, we will lay out the heat pump, dual-fuel and ductless options side by side, and zoning and smart thermostats where they earn their keep.
