Ductless Mini-Splits · Yakima Valley
Ductless mini-split installation in Yakima
Wall, ceiling or floor units that heat and cool the room you are in, with no ductwork to build. Dual-zone and multi-zone designs, installed by the Selah family crew.
Chapter 01
The rooms the ducts never reached
Every house in the Yakima Valley has one: the back bedroom that stays cold in January, the sunroom that cooks in August, the finished garage or the add-on over the shop where nobody ever ran a duct. A ducted system pushes air a long way to reach those rooms, and a good share of it never arrives.
That is the case for ductless. Heat and cool air that travels through attic and crawlspace ducts is energy you paid for and lost on the way. A mini-split puts the head right in the room, so you can save close to 30% of the energy that is normally lost through your duct work. It also works as a whole-house answer where installing or retrofitting central air would be too invasive and too costly, or where there is simply no room for ductwork at all.
Each indoor unit is filtered on its own, and the filters wash out and last about ten years. You only condition the rooms people are using, which is where zoned controls and smart thermostats earn their keep.

How an ACT install actually goes
A few small holes in the wall, one outdoor unit, and each room gets its own temperature.
Indoor units come as wall, ceiling or floor mounted heads, tied to the outdoor unit by small refrigerant lines. We lay out the heads on the first visit: where the unit mounts, where the line set runs, where the condensate drains, and where the outdoor unit sits clear of snow and drifting landscaping. Residential project manager Kyle Bryant plans residential installs to code and to the manufacturer installation guidelines, and our crew drills the bracket, runs the lines and commissions the system.
A dual-zone design runs two air handlers off one outdoor unit. For a larger footprint we add a second outdoor unit and more heads, which gives you more zones and more savings. We are a Mitsubishi Double Diamond dealer, and we install and service the other brands too. Rebate paperwork is part of the job: ask us about current Pacific Power rebates.
Chapter 03
Keeping a mini-split honest
Spring and fall, before the temperature extremes, is when a mini-split should get looked at.
Our NATE-certified technicians clean or replace the filters, verify refrigerant levels, clean the coils and fans, and inspect the hardware, the electrical connections and the coolant lines. We also clear the overgrown landscaping and debris from around your outdoor unit, which is the cheapest repair you will ever make. A unit that is cared for twice a year runs steadier and uses less energy, and it is far less likely to quit on the coldest night of the year.
When something does go wrong, these are the signs that mean call: the system cannot hold temperature, it cycles on and off, the coil is frozen or iced, water is leaking or condensing more than it should, there is a strange noise or smell, or your utility bill climbed with no other explanation. We run 24 hour emergency HVAC service, so a dead heat pump in a cold snap gets a person on the phone at (509) 388-2997.

Before you decide
Is ductless right for me?
Often, yes. Ductless heat pump systems heat and cool all year, with ratings up to 30 SEER, among the highest available. They need no ductwork in attics or crawlspaces, so there is no duct heat loss, and with no indoor air handler to house they fit into the smallest spaces.
It fits well when
- A room, addition or converted space has no duct run to it.
- Parts of the building sit empty for long stretches and you would rather not condition them.
- You are in new construction and want zoned comfort from day one.
- You are replacing an older ductless unit that has run its course.
Ask us first when
- You already have good ducts and want one system for the whole house. A ducted heat pump may suit you better.
- The building is large or has many tenants and floors. Look at VRF systems.
Our current specials include $200 off any mini-split install and $100 off each additional unit. Specials change, so ask the office what is running now, and ask about financing.
Two wall mini-splits, one attic handler
“My wife and I want to commend the ACT team for their care and personability on this project. The supervisor Mark was attentive and reachable by text to help us navigate the pre/on site/post install process. Kyle was an enthusiastic customer focused bidder and technician. He and his assistant worked fast and studiously and were courteous throughout the 2-day process of installing an attic handler and two wall mini-splits.”
