Air conditioning

Air conditioning for a valley that heats up all summer

Central AC repaired the same day where we can, and replaced with a high-SEER system sized to your house.

Chapter 01

When the house stops cooling

Yakima and Central Washington heat up all summer, so a failing air conditioner shows itself fast. Airflow from the vents goes weak. The air coming out is warm, or the system cannot hold the temperature you set.

Other signs: it will not turn on, or trips the breaker when it does. It cycles on and off, or runs all day without catching up. A frozen coil or frozen lines. Water leaks and a house that feels clammy. Strange noises and odors, a broken belt, a motor that has given up.

Behind many of those sit ordinary causes: a clogged filter, dirty coils, low or leaking refrigerant, a thermostat that stopped reading right. An electric bill that climbs with no change in how you live is often the first clue.

How ACT repairs and replaces central air

The vans roll out stocked with common parts and diagnostic equipment, which is how a repair can finish the same day. We work on all makes and models: split and packaged central AC, air source and geothermal heat pumps, rooftop units, ductless systems. Certified warranty service covers Trane, American Standard and Mitsubishi.

When the system is past saving, we replace it with the same style or move you to a new one, whether that is a high-SEER central system, a dual-fuel setup, or ductless zones. The higher the SEER rating, the more you save over the life of the system, and we size the equipment and build tight ductwork so it holds up.

ACT is also the crew that sets rooftop units from a crane over downtown Yakima. If a commercial building or a new home needs cooling designed from scratch, the same people do that work.

Chapter 03

A spring tune-up, and what to do on the hot days

Spring is the cheap time to find a problem. A hundred degrees is the expensive one.

The tune-up is a new filter, coil cleaning, and a check of refrigerant level, parts and performance. Done before peak season, it keeps the system efficient all summer and turns up the hidden fault before it becomes an emergency call.

When the heat arrives and the system still fails, call anyway: our emergency HVAC service runs 24 hours, in Yakima, Union Gap, Zillah, Ellensburg, Prosser, Grandview and the Tri-Cities. We work on homes and businesses alike.

From a customer

“Kudos to Jared Holwegner and his crew at Absolute Comfort Technology for being so quick to respond to fix our air conditioner today. In 100° weather, it gets very unpleasant without the A/C. ACT was at the house within 20 minutes, problem solved. Thanks ACT”

Cooling and heating often share equipment. See heat pumps, ductless mini-splits for homes without ducts, or commercial HVAC for rooftop units.

Air conditioning questions, answered

Common signs are weak airflow from the vents, warm air, a unit that cycles on and off or runs without stopping, ice on the coil or lines, water leaks, strange noises or smells, and an electric bill that climbs for no reason.

Our rule of thumb: consider it when the system is more than ten years old, needs frequent repairs, or the repair cost is more than half the value of a new system. Loud operation, poor humidity control and uneven cooling are other signs of a unit past its prime.
